This is a one-year ACGME approved diagnostic neuroradiology program which includes formal rotations at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital Boston, and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. At the conclusion of Fellowship training, individuals will have expertise in all aspects of pediatric and adult neuroradiology interpretation including CT, MRI and PET Imaging of the brain, spine, and head and neck. Fellows will also have hands-on training and exposure to cerebral and spine angiography (diagnostic and therapeutic), vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty, LP myelography, epidural and nerve root injections, head, neck and spine biopsies as well as other image-guided biopsies and procedures. Ample intra/inter-departmental and multidisciplinary research opportunities exist with local hospitals and institutions.

Rotations

Brigham and Women’s Hospital Department of Neuroradiology

BWH is a level 1 Trauma Center and in 2021 approximately 95,000 Neuroradiology exams were performed.
Rotations allow exposure to a wide range of adult brain and spine pathology including neurooncology from Dana Farber Institute, as well as MRI and CT perfusion for stroke and tumor imaging, CTA and other vascular studies, functional imaging and Spectroscopy.

Boston Children’s Hospital Department of Neuroradiology

Rotations here expose the fellow to a wide range of pediatric pathology, both acquired and congenital. Advanced imaging techniques of MR Spectroscopy and Diffusion Tension Imaging complement the brain, head and neck, and spine CT and MRI exams performed here.

Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary

MEEI provides fellows with a unique opportunity to receive training in all aspects of head and neck pathology, from both radiology and clinical subspecialists at a world renowned institution.

Neurovascular Intervention at Brigham and Women’s Hospital

Fellows will participate in both diagnostic and therapeutic neurointerventional angiographic procedures including intra-arterial thrombolysis, clot retrieval, aneurysm coiling, and spine intervention.

Head and Neck, Spine Intervention

Fellows will participate in a variety of non-vascular neurointerventions including facet, nerve and epidural injections, cross-sectional spine, head and neck biopsies, and vertebroplasties and kyphoplasties.

Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neuro ICU

This elective rotation provides an opportunity for fellows to participate in patient rounds and neurosurgical procedures with colleagues in the neurosciences to broaden their clinical knowledge enhancing radiological interpretation.

Conferences

Didactic Conferences

Weekly conferences led by Neuroradiology faculty are held at BWH and BCH. Dr. Hugh Curtain comes from MEEI to present the weekly ENT conference.

Interdisciplinary Conferences

Neuroradiology fellows are responsible for weekly interdisciplinary conferences with neurosurgery and neurology, including pediatric neuroradiology conference as well as a brain tumor board conference on Friday mornings. There is also a bi-monthly pituitary conference.

Research

Fellows are provided with dedicated elective time and access to basic, translational and clinical research projects with ample supporting staff and advanced imaging equipment. Current and past research projects of the fellows have included whole brain CT perfusion using the 320 detector Toshiba Aquilion 1 scanner, resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging in neurodegenerative diseases, diffusion tensor imaging and tractography with faculty at Children’s Hospital Boston, head and neck projects with faculty at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and neuro-oncology projects at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Our program is registered in the NRMP Match

Applicants can start applying to the program on November 21, 2022. The application to the program should be made no later than March 15, 2023.

Application Deadline

We will begin downloading and screening applications from ERAS in early December, 2019. Offer letters will be sent out shortly after. We recommend that all candidate data is submitted as early as possible to ensure inclusion in screening.
